Ame Coats

“We share a similar outlook on life – our work means much more to us than a paycheck. We know we are making a difference. I love meeting relatives whom we have helped bring to the U.S. When you see a mother reunited with a daughter she hasn’t seen in two years, you know the reason you go to work every day.”

Ame brings an unwavering commitment to her clients and a passion for immigration law to Bashyam Shah LLP. She has an in depth understanding of employment and family immigration, not only from the standpoint of legal issues, but also the very technical and emotional aspect of this type of immigration. She skillfully navigates clients through the changing immigration environment, becoming their ally in the process and often their friend. Beyond helping families reunite she has literally changed lives, often giving people their first taste of freedom. Ame has also successfully represented individuals applying for asylum in the U.S. enabling them to live without oppression.

Many of her experiences have added unique dimensions to her ability in immigration law. She spent a year in Bangkok, Thailand teaching English and traveled throughout Southeast Asia, Japan, India, Nepal and Europe. She is a self-proclaimed enthusiast of foreign culture and enjoys experiencing societies around the globe.

Ame honed her skills working as a legal intern at the United States Immigration Court, Executive Office for Immigration Review in Miami, FL. She was also an Associate at the law firm of Allen and Pinnix. Ame loves her work at Bashyam Shah and though she was initially drawn by their expertise and reputation, she has remained because of their dedication.

Ame graduated from the Campbell University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association; her practice at the firm is focused on employment and family-based immigration, naturalization and asylum.
